A long time ago in disco stratosphere far away…. there lived a band called The Vaudeville Smash. Well, not a long time ago, but right now in fact.
Their sound may hark back to a funkadelic era of tight hot pants and tiny tees but they are definitely from the here and now.
Back in June 2009, I caught these guys for the first time at The Toff, Melbourne in a support slot and they were hot to trot!!! In their journey since then, they have gone from strength to strength on the live circuit, including a recent successful trip to SXSW where they went down a storm and had some rave reviews.
They recently released their track Roller Disco and are definitely on the road to great things.
My money is on ‘The Smash’ as a top tip for 2011 and beyond and you better get on their Starlight Express quick before it leaves the roller disco station!!!
These days there aren’t nearly enough bands that look like Al Pacino in “Scarface”. The Smash are a welcome remedy to this situation and have the added bonus of also being rather good.
Catch them at The Toff on 30/4. You’re welcome.
