The National Indigenous Music Awards in partnership with Radio Monitor and the SGC Group has created the very first Indigenous music chart, an important year-round impact for the awards and an expanded role in bringing Indigenous music to the front.
The charts are compiled weekly, creating a list of the most-heard Indigenous songs across Australian radio, including commercial, community, ABC, digital, metro and regional radio stations. With Busby Marou taking out the very first #1 position, the chart also features great tracks from Thelma Plum, Tia Gostelow, Tasman Keith and many other great Australian musicians, showing the depth of Australian Indigenous talent currently on Australia’s airwaves.
The National Indigenous Music Charts are a project of The National Indigenous Music Awards and SGC Media. Data is sourced from Australia’s music industry standard radio monitoring system Radio Monitor, tracking data from across over 200 commercial, community, digital and regional radio stations.
“In designing the chart, it was important to us to ensure robust and consistent data and Radio Monitor’s breadth of radio intelligence was the obvious place to start,” said SGC Group’s Stephen Green. “We hope the chart becomes a regular weekly visit for those to whom a quick look at the most popular Indigenous songs in the country could spur them on to give a listen, give support to or go in to bat for amazing music that might not already be on the radar.”
